The Resolution of the United Nations General Assembly for adopting 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with 169 targets nd 304 indicators on 25th September 2015 under the official agenda “Transforming our world, the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. The Govt. of India is one of the signatories of this resolution.
The Govt. of Assam recognizes that the 17 SDGs, 169 targets and 304 indicators represent the consensus of the global community on things to be done by different Govt. in the interest of the well-being of the entire world and humanity.
The Government of Assam further recognizes the great beneficial impact achievement of these Goals would have on the health, happiess, prosperity and well-being of each and every citizen of Assam, as also on the conservation and preservation of the states’ unique bio-diversity which is so important for the Sustainable Development and economic growth of Assam.
The Government of Assam has decided to implement the SDGs in the state and to launch an initiative titled “Assam 2030 in light of SDGs. WPT & BC Department has entitle the following two goals under SDGs i.e.
a) Eradication of poverty
b) Quality Education.
Eradication of Poverty: “Fundamentally poverty is a denial of choice and opportunities a violation of human dignity” – U.N. That is why each and every Country of the World have been taking various initiatives and steps for eradication of poverty. Similarly the Govt. of Assam has taken certain vision for eradication of poverty from the society by “Vision 2030”.
This Department also have taken some schemes under Family Oriented Income Generation scheme for eradication of poverty.
This Department has targeted total of 305200 nos. (approx) of BPL families for eradication of poverty. Accordingly, this Department has taken budget provision of Rs. 2945.49 crore for ST people and Rs. 877.02 crores for sc people of the State for eradication of poverty.
Quality Education: A good quality education is one that provides all learners with capabilities they require to become economically self The sustainable livelihood programme contribute to the peaceful and democratic up-gradation and also enhance individual wellbeing. WPT & BC Department has been taken various schemes in support of quality education i.e.
(i) Scholarship for SC, ST and OBC students.
(ii) Book Bank
(iii) Financial incentive to meritorious students.
(iv) Coaching and Allied schemes
(v) Up-gradation of merit
(vi) Vocational training
(vii) Construction of hostel
(viii) Ashram school
(ix) Eklavya Model Residential School etc.
